When towing with your GMC Sierra or Chevy Silverado, it is important to protect your tailgate. A ball mount or other hitch accessory inserted in the receiver can become an obstruction for the inner tailgate operation. This hitch cap sensor is a tailgate saver, working in sync with the truck’s electronics to prevent the tailgate from folding down and being damaged by the hitch accessory.
Installing this Chevrolet / GMC tailgate sensor is simple with no wire cutting or splicing required. It fits virtually any 2" x 2" receiver hitch, and it requires no extra electrical components for a complete installation.

Installation was a breeze. Disables inner tailgate when switch cover is open. Both parts of tailgate function with cover closed. One unexpected thing. If I push the inner gate button with cover open, it disables the whole tailgate for app. 45 secs. No big deal, just unexpected. Just installed today. I will review after some use.

Review of the Curt Protective Multi-Pro Tailgate Sensor.
The package arrived completely unscathed which I was happy to see. Inside the shipping box were 2 of the Curt Protective Multi-Pro Tailgate Sensor boxes. I’m not sure why but the invoice says 2 -
UPDATE : After having the Curt Protective Multi-Pro Tailgate Sensor installed and used for almost 4 months, I have not found any issues with the unit. The unit performed flawlessly during our 4K mile trip through some National Parks this summer. The cover was opened and closed way too many times to count and the spring on the cover is just as "snappy" as when it was originally installed. There was never any issue with the tailgate dropping onto the hitch that we had installed. I tried multiple times to see if the unit would fail but it never did. One of my original concerns was how the plastic frame and attachment parts would hold up. So far, so good. There does not appear to be any issue with longevity of these parts. As I kept using the unit by installing and removing my hitch multiple times, I discovered that I did not have to remove the GMC supplied 2" receiver sleeve every time that I removed the hitch and closed the cover. In fact, the cover seems to close better/tighter when having the sleeve installed. Bonus points for not having to store the sleeve somewhere in my truck !!

This is slick. Definitely watch the install video. Took about a hour and works great. Plug and play wiring harness so no splicing is required. There was a very slight amount of movement on the receiver when I bolted the 2 halves together so I wrapped it with electricians tape twice and it snugged right up. Tape was completely covered by the cover. Love the product!
