The CURT Spectrum trailer brake controller gives you powerful, precise braking operation in an extremely simple and subtle design inside your vehicle. It features an LED-equipped, rotary knob interface and a separate main module with an advanced accelerometer. This allows for an OE look and feel to be maintained inside the cab of your vehicle. The separated design of the Spectrum brake controller allows the main module to be mounted behind the dash of the vehicle, completely out of sight. Meanwhile, the compact, unobtrusive interface can be fully integrated into the dash with just a single hole.

The interface of the Spectrum trailer brake controller is simple but powerful. It is a single rotary knob with a push-button in the center that allows the driver to adjust brake power output. It is equipped with ten tri-color LEDs (red, blue and green) to show the automated power output of the control. There is no need for a separate display or additional controls, keeping the dash of your vehicle clean, professional and uncluttered.

Behind the Spectrum brake controller is a powerful main module with a triple-axis motion-sensing accelerometer. This advanced circuit is able to detect the inertia of the vehicle and trailer on all axes of three-dimensional space. Whatever your speed and whatever grade you are travelling on -- up or down a hill -- the Spectrum brake controller produces the exact amount of power needed for a smooth, safe stop every time. The main module can be mounted with the included mounting brackets or adhesive patch.

The Spectrum electric brake controller is a fully compatible unit, able to operate up to eight trailer brakes at a time. It can be used on vehicles with ABS brakes and cruise control, and it works with low-voltage and PWM systems.

Like most CURT trailer brake controllers, the Spectrum installs using a quick plug harness. These wiring harnesses are vehicle-specific and plug into any CURT brake controller for a custom-fit installation in the vehicle. The Spectrum also has automatic leveling and calibration features to simplify the setup process.

    Does the Job

This one seemed liked the best one out there so I bought it.
Installation on my 22 Silverado Custom was fairly easy once I figured out the center stack piece pushes in with a pry tool. Then it was a matter of connecting the wires which was straightforward using the Curt quick connect vehicle specific plug.
In use it took a little getting used to but after a couple of miles towing I got the hang of it quickly. Pretty much set and forget for my type of towing unless I’m towing a full load then I need to adjust.
Looks great on center stack clean factory look.
Easy to use with the dial and backed by Curt warranty.
    I like it!

    Factory looking brake controller

Installed in my 2023 1500 Custom Trail Boss. Install was fairly simple after watching some YouTube videos; however, the little pins are a pain in the *ss. Set up and operation, once I was done with the pins, were very simple and works as a brake controller should. The dial looks factory on the dash and blends right in without looking like an after thought.

    Curt Spectrum

Great customer support by James. I had several wires on the plug separate from the pins. I called and talked to James who helped me resolve the problem by sending me a new knob and wiring. I will definitely buy Curt products in the future based on their customer service

    Customer support

I recently purchased a Curt spectrum break controller and install it myself. I damaged one of the wiring harnesses, Which was mostly my fault. I called in and they rushed me a replacement part and I got it 2 days later. After finishing the install the device works perfectly.

    Awesome Brake Controller

I installed the Spectrum brake controller today in my 2019 Navigator. I was a little hesitant to do it myself, due to having to remover the lower panels on the drivers dash. I was afraid I would break it removing it. I was amazed how easy the panel came off, the the lower trim piece was held in by 3 plastic rivets. Out they came. I decided to remove the steel brace/ frame under the steering wheel. With it removed I had easy access to the space under the dash. It took me a little while to find the factory grey plug to connect the module. Turns out there is a dummy connector right behind where the factory controller operation panel. Removed it and using the proper interface cable it was a simple plug and play. The drilling was the hardest part, I found where I wanted to mount it, right where the factory controller panel would go. No room to get your hands in there to insert the screw backer without a major tear down of the remaining dash. I did some se arching there and found I could get a clean area in a slight channel behind the panel. Did a plum line to get the center line to line up the marks for drilling. Did a very small test hole and was met with rather thick plastic forming that channel. This worked in my favor as I was able to drill the anchor top pilot hole, use a drywall screw and snugged up nicely. The module was easily mounted to the steel brace, drilled 4 holes on one side and 2 on the other. Used zip ties, doubled them for extra holding strength… spot tied the wire bundles and reinstalled the brace, and grime panels… Very straightforward install. It really looks factory and everything seems to work post install… I have yet to try it with my trailer will do that tomorrow… I am confident that all will be fine!

    Install Jeep Gladiator

I installed the knob on the Jeep Gladiator on the dash right of the Tune/Browse/Enter/Scroll knob. It was really easy and looks like a factory install. The control box I mounted below the steering wheel. I pulled off the plastic plate and put it on the support bracket of the Gladiator. I researched different options and this is what I picked and would recommend it to anyone for their 2018/up Wrangler or Gladiator 2020/up.

    So easy

By far the easiest trailer brake controller I have ever installed. My 2018 Chevy Colorado didn't even have a plug available, just the wires. Took me about 40 minutes to install.

    Modern, ergonomic, simple, effective

While planning to build a medium duty commercial RV tow rig, I chose to go with the Curt spectrum brake controller instead of a conventional under the dash style controller. It was a great choice. The spectrum fit in perfectly. Its neat design blended well with the dash and color led display added a modern touch. It is easy to use and understand on the fly. It provides effective braking and easy adjustability when needed. Curt has always come through in having the perfect towing equipment option, and as usual, they didn't disappoint. They are our first choice in towing equipment.

Had controller installed by Cap It here in Kelowna British Columbia and was set up perfectly and reviewed with installer. Works well. Very happy with product now that I'm familiar with all the lights. Nice location of dial, nicely done.

    Curt spectrum trailer brake

I had a problem while installing the curt spectrum trailer brake C51170. I call talked to customer service and they sent me another unit. The issue I had was my fault because I broke two of the pins and I just wanted to buy another part instead they sent me another unit way above and beyond what I had expected. They really stand behind their product and customer sevice was a pleasure to work with. 5 out of 5 stars.
