When towing with your GMC Sierra or Chevy Silverado, it is important to protect your tailgate. A ball mount or other hitch accessory inserted in the receiver can become an obstruction for the inner tailgate operation. This hitch cap sensor is a tailgate saver, working in sync with the truck’s electronics to prevent the tailgate from folding down and being damaged by the hitch accessory.
Installing this Chevrolet / GMC tailgate sensor is simple with no wire cutting or splicing required. It fits virtually any 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" receiver hitch, and it requires no extra electrical components for a complete installation.

I have had this about 2 month and the plastic cover broke. The cover should have been made out of aluminum.

The concept is great and works as advertised, but the plastic parts are the weak link. I had the plastic door tab that holds the door down broke and now I have to tape it down. If this product was made in aluminum it would be more durable and extend its use.

This product works exactly as designed and looks great. Install is a breeze when you follow the instructions in the video. I have had mine for 13 months and use it about once a week. One of the small tabs on spring side of the plastic cover broke and now the cover is flapping in the wind when open. I called Curt to help me repair it and I was informed that my 1 year warranty had expired and they do not sell replacement parts. The only option they offered was to purchase a complete new unit when all I need is the $10 plastic lid. With the lid flapping in the wind, it is just a matter of time before the other side breaks and the lid falls off on the road when towing. Keep this in mind if you plan to use the cover more frequently as the tab will likely break sooner for you.

Pretty simple installation. Works as described. Videos available that are more helpful. A little bit of a 'jigsaw' puzzle putting the tailgate mechanisms back. The GMC electrical connectors can be a little challenging to get appart. I'm still not sure what the magic trick is for separating other than being patient. I would suggest to Curt that they improve the wire protection where the wires leave the hitch.
