    2014 chevy 3500 long box

Received this plate after a 6 week backorder from the company I ordered it from. Initial install was simple in under 5 minutes. Tolerance are tight to my 5th wheel so I had to tap the 5th wheel and pins through the rail with a hammer(I'm happy about this). Once seated there was a gap between the rails and the box floor which made the adapter swivel and tilt. I remedied that movement with 1/4in thick rubber mat the whole length of the rail. I stood on the adapter while someone pushed the release handle to close (if by myself I'd just set the camper on it). Only used once so far, but am very satisfied with this setup. Glad I have a loader tractor to put in and out of truck.

    Curt X5

Heavy!! But well-built is a good thing. Doesn't fit tight enough in my truck, and I have a spray in liner, it still doesn't "seat" and moves easily a few degrees in every direction. I expect a 1/4" thick rubber mat to correct this problem although I will have to jump up and down on it to get the pin to engage with the mat in between! I expect it to be just what I needed as I bought a camper that came with a Reese hitch and rails and could not get rails installed on my truck with the B&W hideaway already installed. Other options were 1)Andersen Hitch---I was leary of that setup and>$700 or 2)B&w companion---great, best option but $1000.
The Curt X5 allowed me to use the hitch I had and satisfied my budget.

    Update X5 install issues

Used adapter 1 season with no pulling slop between 5th wheel hitch and adapter. Great product. Just a pain to install and remove with factory sprayed liner.

    Used for several years

I've had the CurtX5 for over 3 years and this hitch performed well for us for the most part. We've moved on to something new but thought I'd put this review in.

    1. We have a spray in bed liner and had no issues because whoever installed the BW hitch must have installed after the bed liner because it was flush with the liner, but above the bottom of the truck.

    2. The rubber pads on the bottom edges didn't last one trip. But I figured this was cosmetic and didn't really care. I thought about adding something to take up the slack though.

    3. The plate should be tight. In my situation it really didn't go down far enough to make it sit flat on the bed of the truck. There was some play when you lifted one side or the other. In retrospect I should have added a firm rubber piece on the bottom of the rails to help take up the slack.

    4. Do not jerk or bounce your truck while using this. Not really recommended to use with Sliding hitches though you CAN, just be careful. We ended up denting the bed of the truck a little moving the slide when the slide got stuck once. This added a tremendous amount of weight on one side of the rail and it bent the bottom of the truck. I was able to fix the slider so it stopped doing this but it was too late for the truck bed. I highly recommend only using a slider that functions really well and doesn't ever jam.

So other than issues we caused ourselves, this adapter worked GREAT. It is VERY heavy (heavier than it looks!) so be prepared to have help if you aren't muscular. Over the years I got to where I could put it in by myself without pulling something. :)

Overall a great device if used properly!

    X5 install issues

The X5 is great idea but a pain in the --- to install. I installed this adapter in a B&W Turn over ball Gooseneck # GNRK1384 on a 2014 Ram 2500 with factory sprayed bed liner. First, adapter hit safety chain links. No problem, I removed the links. Second, adapter would not completely seat at bottom of gooseneck. Lacked 1/8" to bottom out. About the thickness of the sprayed in liner is. I made sure gooseneck hole was clear of debris and sprayed lubricant inside. Finally after a lengthy session with a sledge hammer and block of wood the adapter finally seated and locking pin in hitched engaged. Instructions did state that some modifications would be needed for bedliner installations. Come on Curt, you can't fab a adapter plate to accommodate bedliners. I have not pulled the camper yet with adapter installed, but when I do I'll write another review. Gave adapter 2 stars only for being a great idea

    x5

I recently purchased a curt x5 part number 16310. I was looking for a b&w companion but already had a hitch but couldn't use it with my b&w gooseneck plate. So i found the x5, I did some research but there are not many reviews of the product. On the first look I thought man it's just rails welded together but went ahead and ordered one anyway. When it arrived I could not believe how stout the set up was built. It is over-engineered which is great, I put it in the truck with no issues at all even with my spray in bedliner. I was even able to run the setup with my in bed toolbox which was not able to work with a companion in a short bed. Bottom line if you are on the fence about ordering it. Go ahead and just buy it.
